Father's Day is a celebration dedicated to parents. In this way, fatherhood and the influence of men in the lives of their children are honored. In general, the European Catholic tradition commemorates it on March 19, the day of Saint Joseph, the father of Jesus. However, most Ibero-American countries celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June, and taking San José as an example of man and life, they leave the celebration of Men's Day for March 19. It is customary to give gifts and eat together.

Traditions in America

- In Argentina the first celebration was held on August 24, 1958, in honor of José de San Martín, considered the Father of the Fatherland. In honor of the Liberator of America, the date of the birth of Mercedes Tomasa de San Martín y Escalada, August 24, 1816, had been chosen to honor all the parents.
But in the 1960s, the date was changed and began to be held on the third Sunday in June, as it is celebrated in the United States, where in 1909 a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd paid tribute to her father, Willian Jackson Smart, who was a veteran of the civil war. It is currently celebrated on the third Sunday of June.

- In Bolivia and Honduras it is celebrated on March 19, the day of Saint Joseph according to Catholic tradition (patron saint of carpenters); According to the Bible, Joseph, the father of Jesus, was a carpenter.

- In Brazil it is celebrated on the second Sunday of August.

- In Canada it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.

- In Colombia it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. However, in 2014, the date was modified so that it did not coincide with the national presidential elections, which were held in the country that same year, leaving Father's Day for the fourth Sunday of the same month (June 22, 2014 ).

- In Ecuador it is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
